Under the supervision of <strong>Professor Gavin Thomas<\/strong>, you\u2019ll be engaged in high-impact research on how <strong>IM30 proteins<\/strong> protect biological membranes from stress across different microbial species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83e\uddec Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conduct experiments in <strong>molecular microbiology and microbial biochemistry<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plan and execute protein purification, gene expression, and bacterial genetic manipulation techniques.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team and contribute to the design and development of new experimental approaches.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain laboratory records and ensure compliance with health and safety policies.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manage lab inventory, chemicals, consumables, and service contracts.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communicate findings effectively to both internal and external research teams.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83c\udf93 Qualifications and Skills<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Degree or equivalent experience<\/strong> in Biochemistry, Molecular Microbiology, or a related biological science field.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hands-on experience in <strong>bacterial genetic manipulation<\/strong>, <strong>heterologous gene expression<\/strong>, and <strong>protein purification<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to work <strong>independently<\/strong> and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strong attention to detail and commitment to <strong>good laboratory practice (GLP)<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83c\udf0d Why Join the University of York?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Department of Biology<\/strong> is at the forefront of bioscience research, offering a vibrant, inclusive, and collaborative environment.
