Job Summary:

The Vienna Graduate School of Population Genetics is inviting applications for PhD studentships. This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic students with a passion for interdisciplinary research in evolution to join an international team. English is the working language, and students will be integrated into a dynamic research environment.

We are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in theoretical, computational, or experimental fields such as bioinformatics, biomathematics, statistics, evolutionary genetics, functional genetics, theoretical and experimental population genetics. Applicants with a genuine interest in interdisciplinary research in evolution are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application Procedure:

Applicants must submit the following as a single PDF document to the program coordinator:

  • Application form: Include two preferred research topics.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Motivation letter: Include a statement of research interests.
  • University certificates: Include grades and a copy of your degree (diploma, master; equivalent to 300 ECTS). If you are earning your degree after the deadline, include recent transcripts.
  • Reference letters: At least two reference letters assessing your scientific qualifications should be emailed directly to the program. Please contact your referees proactively.

Interview Process:

Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include:

  1. Presentation: The applicant will present one publication selected from five suggested by the faculty.
  2. Faculty Questions: The faculty will ask questions related to the paper, the applicant’s background, and their motivation.
  3. Applicant Questions: The applicant will have the opportunity to ask the faculty questions.

The final selection will be made based on the candidates’ scientific potential.
