🔬 About the Pontrelli Lab
Established in January 2025, the Pontrelli Lab explores microbial metabolism, community dynamics, and enzymatic pathways using innovative metabolomics methodologies. The lab aims to understand microbe-driven carbon storage in the ocean, focusing on lab-controlled model microbial systems to unravel complex environmental processes at the molecular level.
📘 The PhD Project: Microbial Physiology, Enzymes & Environmental Interactions
As a PhD researcher, you will:
- Develop and apply high-throughput metabolomics tools
- Design and execute enzyme assays to identify novel microbial enzymes
- Investigate how microbial interactions influence carbon cycling and contaminant degradation
- Work with non-model microorganisms using advanced culturing techniques
- Receive training in molecular biology, microbial genetics, and analytical chemistry
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to foundational work in environmental systems biology, with potential global impact in climate change research and biogeochemical cycling.
